I’ve sent you a confirmation email that will arrive in moments. Please follow the instructions there to complete this tiresome process. (If you don’t get the confirmation email, please check your SPAM folder or WHITELIST settings.)
Why?
That’s a really good question.
Short Answer:
It’s the only method I have to help you deal with the ever-increasing spam problem.
Long Answer:
There’s a little problem on the Internet called the “Joe Job”. This is where someone subscribes you to someone’s mailing list without your consent (usually with some malicious or petty intent).
After someone has been “joe-jobbed”, they usually think the list owner is spamming them. So, they scream bloody murder and the list owner gets shut down.
If you have a “confirmed opt-in” system in place, a Joe Job is impossible. Anyone who requests info or subscribes must confirm via an email sent to the subscribing email address. In my opinion, we shouldn’t be punishing the list owner, we should be punishing the guy responsible for the Joe Job. However, that’s just not the way it works these days, so we list owners have a little extra work to do, and you subscribers have an extra step as well.
Sorry, but there it is.
Okay, go check your email, I bet it’s there by now, and thanks again for taking the time and trouble to confirm your address.I know it’s a pain in the butt.
