3 Ways To Avoid Information Overload

Do you ever feel like if you learn/see/hear one more thing, you brain will start leaking out of your ears? Welcome to Information Overload .

I feel your pain.

I keep hearing from all the trainers, coaches and guru’s that it’s simple . And they each list "everything" you should do to be successful.

And guess what? Their lists don’t match!

Each trainer/coach/guru lists 5-9 things you MUST do to be successful online. How do you know which is really the one that you need to do?

Well, frankly, it’s gonna depend on you. I know that wasn’t what you wanted to hear, but dang-it, it’s the truth and I promised you truth above all, right from the beginning. It’s going to depend on your goals, the results you are expecting and the method you choose to give you those results.

But I digress. We are talking about how to avoid information overload.

It’s a matter of mindset, discipline and habits. When you are first starting out with a new "prospecting" method like using the Internet, you need to do some research, explore your options and then pick one .

Notice I didn’t say buy every book or product out there to teach yourself, nor did I say read only one . You do need an overview of what’s possible. And you need to know who is doing it successfully. But in the end, you need to choose one thing and then master it. Test it. Track it. Apply it. Study it. Don’t move onto the next "method" or "process", until you have the first one "down pat".

Trust me, I know it will be tempting to spend all your time researching, buying books that promise you 3 simple steps to financial freedom or listening to training calls from marketing guru’s morning, noon and night. But do you know why it will be tempting? Because if you are still researching and studying, you aren’t doing .

If you aren’t doing, you aren’t failing. Can you say "comfort zone"?

Listen, the number ONE reason you will succeed in this (or any) business, isn’t the marketing method, or the capture page, or the autoresponder (although these are all important pieces of the puzzle). No, the number one reason you will succeed, is because you took action. Massive action. Focused action. And you can’t do that if you are still chasing the hype.

There are thousands, no - tens of thousands of people on the Internet today, all hawking their "get rich quick" products, books and training courses. Each one promises you that you can quit your day job, fire your boss and retire in 1 year.

Tell me . . . in your heart . . . do you really think that is possible?

Nope, me either.

Success requires work. Anyone who tells you they have a system you just have to join to be massively wealthy overnight is flat out lying to you. But, I digress again. Sorry for the rant.

To Avoid Information Overload

1. (Focus ) Train yourself to look at one thing at a time. For example, if you are building a list using free traffic techniques, focus on that. All your efforts should be on that one thing until you can do it in your sleep.

2. (Consistency ) Train yourself to be consistent. You can’t succeed doing something only when you have extra time , or when everything else "pressing" is done. Allocate [X] minutes/hours per day for that task, and do it. No matter what.

Not doing it is only hurting you.

Don’t let obligations to others short-change you . If you are spending all your time doing something for someone else, who is growing your business? Short Answer? No one .

3. (Action ) Train yourself to be action oriented. If you are lying awake at night and an idea about how to do (better) what you are trying to do flitters across your brain, do it. The very next day. Take action. Even if it’s wrong action, it’s still got value to you, especially if you are tracking and testing like you should be. It is teaching you what doesn’t work .

You should have noticed that all three things I listed involved the word "Train ". That’s not an accident. You control your success or failure. No one else. Do you want it? Then train for it.

Alright, this post turned into a kind of a rant, and I am sorry about that. I just get so frustrated when I start mentoring someone and they come to the "table" with 43 eBooks, 14 DVD’s and 29 CD’s but not one single "action" under their belts.

I blame it on Information Overload.

4 Pillars Of Network Marketing Success

If you want your business to grow, you need to give your affiliates or downlines regular and comprehensive training. Only when your affiliates are equipped with all the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities can your network marketing business finally provide you with a leveraged income.

4 Important Types of MLM Training

Regularity is not the only requirement for training your network marketing affiliates. Depth is also an important factor. Your training must touch all aspects of the network marketing business if you want your affiliates fully prepared for whatever challenge comes their way.

Writing
Grammar and spelling lessons may seem a waste of time to you and your affiliates at first, but rest assured that it’s a lesson worth learning. Quality of writing is often considered proportional to one’s level of professionalism. If you want people to respect your network marketing business, don’t give them any reason to treat you otherwise.

Writing is also critical in various stages of the network marketing business so it’s a skill worth mastering. You need to write when you’re adding content to your website, composing newsletters to distribute to your prospects and affiliates, or sending messages through your autoresponder.

Writing is virtually done every step of the way so make sure you train your affiliates long and hard on this.

Follow-Up

Making a follow-up call or letter is an art in itself, and it’s one that your affiliates must perfect. It’s quite rare for prospects or leads to respond at the first try and as such, follow-ups are almost always necessary. This, however, doesn’t mean they’re easy to do because they’re not.

The ideal tone for follow-up is assertive but not aggressive. It must not exert pressure of any kind. Your follow-up should also serve to remind in case your lead has forgotten about your call. It should also serve to persuade in case your prospect isn’t completely convinced yet of the viability of what you’re offering.

Lead Generation

On training your affiliates, another thing you should focus on is lead generation. A lot of network marketing businesses have failed simply because its owners are unable to generate their own leads and rely too much on buying lists of MLM leads.

One other thing you should work on is making your affiliates understand the need for high quality leads. Success in network marketing is based on finding the right persons to recruit and not just recruiting the first person who says yes to you.

As their mentor, be aware that it’s also your responsibility to keep yourself updated about the latest trends in lead generation and share it with your affiliates.

Internet Marketing

This is necessary for individuals who are more familiar with traditional network marketing strategies than those used in current times. These people are mostly unaware of how to launch their network marketing business online. It’s your job to help them realize their full potential and make the best of their businesses.

An introduction to search engine optimization would do for starters. Afterwards, teach them the basics of Web 2.0 marketing like social networking and bookmarking, forum marketing, blogging, and podcasting. Don’t forget to teach them the rudiments of ebook, article, and email marketing as well.

Now that you know the four essential types of MLM training, it’s time to develop your training formula. Once implemented, your network marketing business is set to explode!

If you are marketing a product or service on the Internet, then you absolutely need an auto responder, that’s a given. The only real choice is which service to use. There are a lot out there, many of which state their deliverability rate is above 96%, but a little research shows those numbers tend to be inflated. (AWeber boasts a deliverability rate of 99.34% and they have the stat’s to back it up)

When looking for my first auto responder, I spent weeks demo’ing the various products, quizzing the tech support guys (not the sales guy since I was afraid they would just tell me what I wanted to hear), and asking other marketers what their experience was. I pretty much bugged ANYONE already using an Autoresponder to get to the nitty gritty. After all, they were going to be getting my $19.95 to $29.95 every month, right? I had a right to know it was money well spent. I had special needs since I was planning to run an ad co-opt for about 10 of my friends, but wanted to share the leads equally, not pool them together and try to figure out later who got what.

Well, 3 or 4 weeks into all the research, I finally bit the bullet and made a choice. AWeber. My only regret? That I wasted 4 weeks of time when I could have been marketing with AWeber. The Power Of Leverage In Network Marketing

Are you a workaholic? I know I have been accused of this by insensitive friends and family that didn’t understand my burning desires and relentless need for forward momentum. But even a workaholic can only put in so many hours per day. Let’s see… there are 24 hours in a day, 365 days in a year. That’s a max of 8760 hours. No sleep, no pottie breaks, no drive time. Maximum 8760 hours. (There were years when I think I came close to that number).

Now, I bet you could get a lot accomplished in 8760 hours. In fact, I would guarantee it. Your performance might be suffering a tad with no sleep though. Okay, just so we are clear… 1 person, working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 52 weeks = 8760 man hours of effort into building your business.

Why Such A High Failure Rate For MLM’ers?

Yep, that’s right. Multilevel Marketing Companies, or MLM’s use Network Marketing to *market* their products, which means they get and sponsor people who have never owned a business before to tell other people about the product. And since having other representatives sponsored is one of the *income streams*, these people market BOTH the business opportunity and products to the same group of people.

That’s a little like advertising a Dog Training program and if they show any interest, try to sell them Home Siding.

Driving Traffic To Your Business Opportunity

I guess you would have to have been living under a rock (or just not surfing the Internet) for the past two years to NOT know about Google’s Adwords feature, but I thought I would spend a few minutes explaining how to drive traffic to your business opportunity page.

While there are a few methods (we will cover them all in later posts) to do this, none is as quick or effective as using one of the largest *in-place* methods available, Google Adwords.

Here’s how it works… you research what keywords you want to advertise for (keywords are what the people searching Google use to get results), build an ad, bid on the keywords and then turn on the tap. Instant traffic flows to your web site.
