Anna, it’s not a dumb question, just one that can’t be answered easily. In fact, I have my hosting company investigating it even as I type this.

Each web address has a unique IP address, and each hosting account has a unique login. They (low-life hackers) use a program that uses brute force password crackers to stuff passwords until they get a hit.

Since I video steps showing how to create sub domains, install Wordpress (and the like), I frequently display my control panel. While I block out certain fields, they may have found my user ID and gone from there.

All we can do is change passwords frequently, report any problems and work hard to stay a step ahead. It’s a full time job since these losers have nothing better to do.

Thanks for posting this! This is very helpful. I saw this done to a site recently but I am not sure if they used htacess or how they did it.

You sound like my dh - total rider any day any time.

Know what you mean about testing things and gaining confidence.

It’s just like that with the membership site I’m building with a friend - getting the software right has been trick to say the least. Even after researching and thinking we’d found the ‘right stuff’ a month later we’ve had to bite the bullet and switch to a more tech brained one (it would be a breeze for you - challenging for me) ’cause it’s the one we really want.

Appreciating that we only have a month of content on there and under 100 members to date to have to shuffle clumsily around.

As soon as we get this in place (and test it some more I suppose - lol), we can feel confident to grow the site just as big as we care too.

Hope your bum heals fast so you can hop back on and do some long rides again.

I’ve used Filezilla now and it seems at least as good as Coffee-Cup Direct FTP which costs about $30.

Another great free piece of FTP software is CoreFTP.
Your readers can use a search-engine to find it if they don’t like the look and feel of FileZilla.

You ALWAYS provide the most useful information!
